Award-winning care recognised in the Surrey Care Awards 2018
As the year draws to a close, we reflect on the achievements we’ve shared in our Trinity team and celebrate our award-winning care at the Surrey Care Awards 2018.
As over 400 people settled into their seats for the evening, there was a buzz of excited anticipation as everyone waited for the ceremony to begin. Erica Lockhart, Chief Executive to Surrey Care Association, described how “every year, we are recognising and celebrating the exceptional contributions made by individuals and teams within the county’s care workforce” and Erica was joined on stage by BBC Surrey broadcaster Sylvie Blackmore, presenter David Hamilton and The High Sheriff of Surrey Jim Glover to announce and present the awards.

We’re delighted that 5 individuals and an entire team were selected from a county-wide selection of nominations as finalists at the Surrey Care Awards this year:
Kay Flint – Care Newcomer of the Year
Nicola Downs – Beyond the Call of Duty
Shona Kendall, Debbie Sutton and Claire Eaves – Frontline Leader of the Year
Marissa and Team – Excellence in Delivering Dementia Care Award (Team Award)
As our finalists for each category were read aloud, our two Trinity Homecare tables erupted with cheers and applause in support of our finalists!

And then the time came to announce the Frontline Leader of the Year and by the description alone, we all knew that the winner was sat at our Trinity table.
“And the winner is… Claire Eaves!”
Our cheers of delight filled the stands as Claire made her way to the stage to receive her award. Our entire Trinity team were on their feet and applauding as the hosts shared heartwarming testimonials from Claire’s care team.

Being nominated for a Surrey Care Award and being selected as a finalist is an astounding achievement, we’re so proud of every member of our Trinity team and we hope you’ll join us in celebrating the hard work and commitment of our care teams.
About our finalists and winners
Kay Flint – Kay has played a huge part in the success of establishing Trinity Homecare in a new area. She didn’t think twice about changing her hours to ensure her clients has continuity in their care and arranging childcare to support her family at the same time. Kay never gives up in fighting for what is best for her clients and managed to turn all challenges into positives. She is also a trusted member of the Trinity team who is responsible for mentoring new Care Assistants.
Nicola Downs – Nicola became a Senior TrinityCarer in February 2018 and she has never thought twice about going above and beyond. Nicola will collect medication whilst on the school run, keep her phone on at all hours to respond to emergencies and she will support her clients and their loved ones during her working days and in her own time. Nicola is an outstanding carer and a real ambassador for new TrinityCarers.
Shona Kendall – Shona is a qualified assessor of the QCF and has worked alongside senior members of staff to support and prepare them in the completion of their Level 2. Shona has given her colleagues confidence to pursue a qualification which has enabled them to develop their practical skills, knowledge and confidence in what would have otherwise been daunting challenges. Thanks to Shona, her colleagues are now a source of inspiration for other members of the care team.
Debbie Sutton – Debbie has overseen the introduction of new technology to longstanding and new clients alike to ensure that everyone in her care receives a safe, responsive and transparent service at all times. Debbie has introduced these changes in a proactive way to help her clients and their loved ones understand this positive development in the services they receive. Always making herself available to her clients, Debbie keeps in regular contact to ensure everyone feels reassured and supported.
Claire Eaves – In January 2018, Trinity Homecare was approached by Sutton Social Services to take on a number of clients who were in desperate need of urgent support. Claire acted immediately and built a new team within the Sutton community that has made a tremendous difference to the quality of life, safety and peace of mind of her clients and their families. Claire’s support for her team is unfaltering and her staff have described how “she’s made me the Care Assistant I am today”.
Marissa Esterhuysen and Team – Marissa and her team have partnered with the Alzheimer’s Society and the Homecare Association to develop a two-day course in Dementia Training for Homecare. The team have successfully trained over 50 members of the Trinity team to become specialist dementia carers and their commitments to supporting dementia care in our community have created a valuable support network in a regular ‘Community Cafe’ for service users, relatives and members of the community.
